UPDATE: A statement from the Tracey Brooks campaign:
"We had an informative, respectful and civil debate last night and that's exactly what the voters expect and deserve. Unfortunately, after the debate, one of the candidates launched a calculated and unjustified political ambush and the voters expect better." - Tracey Brooks
Random thoughts from Tulip Fest '08
You may indeed be proud of your Indian shield tattoo around your navel, but late pregnancy may not be the best opportunity to show it off.
Who am I to say "no" to deep fried garlic cloves?
Female pattern baldness is apparently at epidemic levels.
The weather couldn't have been nicer, which led to a great turn out. With all the sunshine, I heard the mayor was working on his tan.
Some of the tulips we perceive as the most beautiful are, in fact, flawed. Another way to say this is that flawed tulips can be quite beautiful. Both are true for people.
We (WROW) had to set up our display across the sidewalk from the food vendors, partially blocking the pathway.. At first I thought we were in the worst location. As I watched thousands of people checking out our set up as they were stepping around us, I realized we were in the perfect location.
America is the land of Haves and Have-Nots; For some sad reason, I am one of the Booze Have-Nots.
Why have garbage cans if they're not going to be emptied often enough?
Now to be fair, Ed certainly shares at least half, if not most, of the blame. It was his marriage, after all, and he is the one who initiated divorce proceedings. But according to an unnamed source Remigia thought her marriage could be saved until the world's then-highest paid woman in the media walked into Ed's life. You have to wonder whether Ed was so smitten by Ms Wawa that he could no longer settle for a loveless marriage. Awww!
The divorce proceedings caused a scandal which in turn ended his political career in 1978. Connect the dots: affair with Babwa Wawa -> the Brookes' divorce -> public scandal -> re-election loss
I'm surprised how the larger implications of the Walters/Brooke story have been largely dismissed or overlooked. Barbara Walters is an historic figure who is rightly revered for bringing down barriers for women in the media and in journalism in particular, but her role in the fall from grace of another historic figure who also broke down barriers should be recognized as part of her whole legacy.
I wonder how the story would play out if a white Senator went through a scandalous divorce that cost him the re-election, all because he had an affair with Oprah?

Let's pretend that Ted Kennedy and Oprah were having an affair and it leaked out to the public. It would be okay.....People for some reason think that Ted Kennedy can do no wrong. I would guess the same for Oprah. The same if it were Senator Kerry. It's okay that President Clinton had an oral to do in the White House. BUT.....What if it were George Bush or Laura Bush or Condileeza Rice or John McCain....Very very bad!!!!Shame shame shame!!!
Is it his vigorous defense of the original apostolic deposit of faith, the pearl of great price?
No.
Is it his unapologetic teaching that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life?
No.
Is it his unprecedented work with Pope Benedict XVI and his predecessor Pope John Paul II to heal the millenium-long Great Schism that has divided East and West for a millenium and restore Christian unity as a single witness of salvation to a fallen world?
No.
Is it his courageous and dignified stand in spite of the oppression of the Turkish who continue to persecute him personally, the office of the Patriarch, and Orthodox Christians in Turkey who live under apartheid conditions?
No.
Is it his compassionate, uncompromising moral teaching against greed, selfishness, violence against the born and unborn, and sexual immorality in a world that consistently rejects these timeless teachings?
No.
No, Time Magazine singled out His Holiness because its liberal editors perceive him to be an environmentalist.
Eastern Orthodox leaders recognize that the Creation story in Genesis, while not to be taken literally, places the stewardship of the Earth into the hands of humankind. We believe that our own fallen spiritual state has harmed all creation, and the proof of this teaching is evident even to non-believers who see that we've turned Eden into a dump. It's our responsibility to change that, but the path to care for God's creation is not to be found simply in a recycling bin or on the window sticker of a hybrid car. We must let Christ transform our minds -- the real meaning of the Greek New Testament word often translated as "repent" -- to transform how we live.
While the Earth is not God, but it is his good creation, and our reverance for it shows our reverance for God's power, wisdom, and will. His Holiness teaches that turning our attentions and intentions towards living spiritual lives as God wills rather than material lives not only unites us to God but inevitably results in the cessation of mindless consumption of Earth's resources.
I somehow doubt the Time Magazine editors got that deep into it.

God Bless you Scotto. As a member of the Greek Orthodox church all my life, I'm always disappointed to see one of the church's leaders get caught up in the vanity and vapidness of popular culture. Who made TIME magazine the arbiter of influential people?
Brooke lost his bid for re-election in 1978 partly due to the strange financial issues that were made public during his divorce with his first wife Remigia. There were reports of misstatements under oath about thousands of dollars being owed to this person or that.
Question is... Did Barbara Walters play a role in Brooke's divorce, public fall from grace, and subsequent loss to Paul Tsongas? Did Babwa wreck his home and Senate office?
Both of them made a huge mistake here, and Brooke probably paid for it with his marriage and his political career. Babs, on the other hand, hid her journalistic conflict of interest and went on to have a fabulous career.
Brooke was quite the 'swordsman' back in the day;back in the 70's when one of his children was attending Northeastern University here in Boston (not far from where Bahbah's dad Lou had his nightclub) the stories were legion about his hitting on coeds who were friends of his daughter. Does it make him a bad guy? Not our's to judge I guess. His dogma eventually ran over his karma and the best he could get was a courthouse and a tired tag line for a tiresome pseudo-jounalist. they deserve each other.
Welcome back, chub. Have you seen the Felon's ratings here in Bahstan? Gee, revenge is so sweet is it not?
Who ever thought that the Felon could best your ratings should be fired for gross incompetence (are you listening J & J?)...
You are a Jerry Williams-sized talent in comparison to the Felon, Reese on the Radio, et. al. (and to that hack DePetro, may I add). Too bad RKO had a jones for Tommy Taxes... we wuz all cheated.
The thing that scares me the most about this story is actually having sex with Barbara walters. Can you imagine that lisp telling you to do dirty things? Either can I.
Scotto: Since the folks at the Globe don't seem capable of searching their own archives, I can't blame you for thinking this is new. Walters' affair with Brooke was widely known at the time. See this.
What is it with these fudge packing butt pirates and their incessant need to bang each other in a public place? I don't get it! Are they so broke they can't cough up the coin for a room at the Candlelight in Andover?
Here is an HIV/Aids doc trying to demonstrate safe sex to a lawyer who works with kids. This was probably just an educational session in order to allow him to more properly his clients and to have better discussions with his doctor counterparts at Childrens'. Okay, now would you like to buy that nice new bridge near the Garden???
As a gay guy I can tell you this is just the tip of the iceberg; take a walk by the Fens at night if you don't believe me (though I'd recommend carrying a gun).
COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC: Your absence from Boston is truly noticed: http://www.bostonherald.com/business/media/view.bg?articleid=1090663. As always, I wish the best for you and your family.
Perhaps you can explain to us why many homo's have this "need" to have sex in a public place such as the Fens, Hgwy Rest Stops, Public Rest Rooms and of course behind the Bayside Expo Center just to name a few. This is not normal behavior.
